Can China’s COMAC break the Airbus-Boeing duopoly in Southeast Asia? As aircraft delivery delays and supply chain disruptions hit Indonesia’s aviation sector, low-cost carrier TransNusa has turned to the Chinese-made COMAC C909 to keep its routes flying. Others in Southeast Asia are following suit — Laos has already begun using COMAC jets, while Cambodia has signed on to use them as well. Brunei’s aviation regulatory body recently approved COMAC jets, while Vietnam is taking steps towards approving the aircraft. But COMAC’s lack of certification from US and European regulators could still limit its global ambitions.
