Mt. Dukono in Indonesia just had a giant eruption on May 8th 2026, sending a searing hot ash column right to the boundary between the troposphere and the stratosphere 11,000 meters above sea level. Any higher than that and the ash would begin circulating around the globe and only slowly fall downwards. While Mt. Dukono is Indonesia's most active volcano, this eruption is different than most the eruptions that Mt.
