This is the first ever footage of a giant squid in its natural habitat. It took decades to get this footage. And some creative engineering. The further down into the ocean you go the darker it gets, so when scientists make their way down there with ROV’s or subs the lights and motors typically cause animals adapted for cold, dark isolation to flee.  In 2012, one scientist got creative and finally caught some incredible footage of a deep sea creature we’d never seen before in its natural habitat.
