In West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district, villagers near Fulbari in the strategically sensitive Chicken’s Neck corridor have welcomed the State government’s decision to hand over land to the Border Security Force for barbed wire fencing along the India–Bangladesh border. The move covers a 27-km unfenced stretch aimed at strengthening security in villages bordering Bangladesh. Locals said the fencing would help curb illegal infiltration and improve safety in border hamlets near the Fulbari land port, where cross-border movement of goods is frequent. Residents credited the BSF for maintaining vigilance and said completing fencing would make border security more effective. Similar positive responses were also reported from border areas in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Murshidabad, where people said stronger fencing would improve safety and reduce illegal crossings across vulnerable riverine and hilly stretches of the international border. #WestBengal #BSF #Fulbari #Jalpaiguri #Darjeeling #Mursh
