Kevin Warsh has officially been sworn in as the 17th chair of the US federal reserve, taking over from Jerome Powell in a politically sensitive transition. US president Donald Trump, who previously criticised Powell over interest rates, presided over the ceremony and stressed that Warsh should operate independently of political influence. The move comes as questions continue over the independence of the federal reserve and rising economic pressure linked to inflation and global energy costs.
