Converting a Tub to a Shower will require a new shower drain connection 😩 Don't stress out 😄 While each situation will have its own set of challenges....here are a few of my tips for a successful plumbing change 👇 1. Buy a shower pan that has an offset drain on the side of the existing tub drain. This will reduce the amount of work needed to connect a new p-trap. 2. Use a reducing coupling on the riser pipe of trap to convert to 2". This is the safest way to prevent clogging. If you only have an 1 1/2" waste line, you are better off to have a 1 1/2" p-trap and convert to 2" on the vertical. Horizontal reducing can be problematic. 3. Allow the riser pipe to wildly stick up out of floor. Whether you are installing a New Tile Redi Pan or a standard shower pan, you can use a shower drain that attaches after the pan is set.
