World’s costliest Mango: Tamasa village farmer grows Miyazaki mangoes

In a remarkable agricultural achievement from Odisha’s Malkangiri district, farmer Deba Madakami from Tamasa village has successfully cultivated the rare Japanese Miyazaki mango, considered among the world’s most expensive mango varieties. After four years of intensive care, the mango trees have started yielding fruit this season, attracting large crowds eager to witness the premium variety known internationally as the “Egg of the Sun.” The Miyazaki mangoes reportedly fetch prices ranging from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh per kilogram in international markets. Due to fears of theft, the farmer has fenced the orchard with bamboo barriers and even spends nights guarding the trees.
