It contains multiple chambers connected by narrow passages and dead-end tunnels. Five Italian divers entered the cave on May 14 and never resurfaced. Their bodies were later discovered inside and around the submerged cavern. The victims included marine researchers, a university professor and a dive instructor. One diver was found near the entrance to the final chamber. A sixth person also died during the recovery mission.
