The UK has had the hottest night in May on record, according to provisional data from the Met Office. Temperatures didn't fall below 21.3°C (70F) overnight at Kenley Airfield in London - a minimum temperature above 20C is classed as a "tropical night”. Meanwhile, the record for the hottest temperature recorded in May in the UK could be broken again on Tuesday, with 35C possible. On Monday, it hit 34.8C in Kew Gardens in south-west London - beating the previous May record, set in 1922 and 1944, by two degrees.
