Diesel prices are rising sharply, and the pressure is becoming harder for school bus operators to absorb. Since the US-Israeli strikes on Iran began, diesel prices in Singapore have surged by as much as 75 per cent. One school bus operator says passing higher diesel prices on to parents is not straightforward, because higher fares could mean emptier buses. In April, the government introduced temporary support worth 13 per cent of fare revenue to help operators cope with rising fuel costs. But Edmund Lee, director of EML Transport Service, says costs have risen by much more. Since filming, the Ministry of Education has increased support for school bus operators to 20 per cent of fare revenue amid continued high fuel prices.
