The Royal Commission into Anti-Semitism has found that New South Wales Police conducted no formal risk assessment for the 2023 Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach where a deadly attack occurred. Only four police officers attended the event, unlike previous years, with the Eastern Suburbs Commander admitting there were no guidelines for threat assessments or policing community events. The Commissioner also revealed the inquiry itself has generated a spike in online hate speech directed at Jewish witnesses, with one case referred to the Australian Federal Police.
