At 102 kilograms, Swiss e-commerce pioneer Alan Frei received a stark wake-up call from his doctor: change your life, or face a heart attack. Most people would start with a light jog. Alan decided he wanted to go to the Olympics. What followed is a story straight out of a Hollywood comedy. Utilizing his dual Swiss-Filipino citizenship, Alan set out on a quest for Olympic glory. After realizing he was completely untalented at cross-country skiing, he pivoted to an unlikely alternative: curling. Against all odds, Alan and a group of friends qualified for the Asian Winter Games, where a team of absolute amateurs managed to defeat the reigning pros from South Korea. Although the Olympic dream ultimately slipped away during the 2025 qualifiers, Alan’s journey redefines what it means to win.
