China and Pakistan have announced a renewed push for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, or CPEC, following talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Beijing. The two countries agreed to boost infrastructure and connectivity projects, strengthen security for Chinese workers, and develop Gwadar port as a regional hub, even as concerns remain over funding delays, militant attacks and regional tensions.
