In 1965, Rhodesia declared independence from Britain and set itself on a collision course with the world. Sanctions followed, diplomatic ties fractured, and a slow pressure campaign began to tighten around the country. What started as a political standoff turned into a long and punishing war. Fighting spread across the countryside as insurgent groups gained strength and operated across porous borders. Rural areas became contested ground, and the conflict began to reach deeper into daily life. Years of isolation and sustained warfare placed increasing strain on the state. Resources were stretched, security deteriorated in key regions, and the government faced growing pressure to accept a negotiated settlement. By 1980, that settlement ended Rhodesia. Zimbabwe emerged in its place under new leadership, marking a complete transfer of power. The transition closed one chapter and opened another, with consequences that would shape the country’s trajectory for decades. Written and hosted by C
