Muslims across the world are celebrating Eid al-Adha or the Festival of Sacrifice. It marks the end of the annual Hajj Pilgrimage and involves the ritual sacrificing of livestock. The day begins with special prayers followed by feasting and the distribution of meat from the sacrificed animal to friends, family and the poor. Eid al-Adha is one of the most important holidays in Islam. But for many, the financial burden of performing an animal sacrifice is rising sharply.
