Authorities say two special needs students, aged 12 and 15, died in the crash alongside the bus driver and a school assistant in the town of Buggenhout. Police say the minivan entered the crossing while the safety barriers were down, before being struck by a train travelling from Bruges. Seven children were onboard the vehicle at the time of the collision. Several others survived, while around 100 passengers on the train escaped serious injury. Emergency crews rushed to the scene as investigators began examining why the vehicle crossed onto the tracks. Officials confirmed the train driver tested negative for alcohol and drugs, while an autopsy will be carried out on the minivan driver.
