“People tend to sometimes overestimate their capability in terms of swimming and looking after themselves in open water and also tend to underestimate some of the hazards.” Accidental drownings in this heatwave period have claimed at least ten lives, including eight children, but choosing lifeguarded beaches and remembering the critical “Float to Live” survival technique could prevent further deaths, says the safety lead for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, Guy Addington. Guy Addington was speaking to John Pienaar on Times Radio Drive. Listen live every Monday to Thursday from 4–7pm.
