"Let's get a deal done": Doug Ford speaks on CUSMA review amid Washington trip

Ontario Premier Doug Ford spoke with media Tuesday at the tail end of a two-day visit to Washington, D.C. after unveiling the renewed "Fortress North America" plan. Ford said the plan is all “about getting the USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada free trade agreement) deal done as quickly as possible.” He told reporters it would also help boost the economies of both Canada and the U.S., while “creating more jobs, more investment, more production [and] more defence spending.” July 1 marks the CUSMA review deadline. Formal discussions with the U.S. and Mexico are yet to be established. Ford expressed urgency on finalizing the CUSMA deal, saying, “Let’s get a deal done.” Regarding future U.S.-Canada relations, the premier said: “Everyone’s going to be Kumbaya.” Ford’s remarks come after Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc’s own visit to the capital, where the minister said he had a “positive” meeting with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Canada’s chief U.S. trade nego
