One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has said "SBS will be gone" and has vowed to cut back the ABC's operations if One Nation comes to power. "There’s no need for it [SBS] any more; the internet has overtaken the need for it," said Hanson while speaking at the National Press Club. "SBS does not provide commentary on the policies of political parties, consistent with our obligations as an impartial public broadcaster", a network spokesperson said a statement. Hanson went on to accuse the ABC of political bias, adding that under her leadership, the broadcaster would "still exist, but in a very different form". "Taxpayers will still fund some of the ABC’s operations in regional, rural, and remote areas ... in the cities, the ABC will only be a subscription service."
