The Koenigsegg CC850 has a gated 6-speed manual transmission *and* a 9-speed automatic, but it’s all combined into a single transmission! How does it work? Well it all starts with Koenigsegg’s LST or light speed transmission, which is a 9-speed, lightning fast automatic. Added to this system is the gated shifter, as well as the third pedal. When you switch over to manual mode, the shifter itself, as well as the clutch pedal, control the right combination of clutches within the 9-speed transmission to select your chosen gear, though you’re now limited to six speeds instead of nine. And while a typical manual uses a single clutch disc, which engages with a flywheel to connect the engine to the transmission, Koenigsegg’s doesn’t have a flywheel, but it uses 7 clutches!
