In this talk, high school student Judah Sobel traces a through line from Socrates and Plato to Nazi Germany to a California ballot measure most voters accidentally voted the wrong way on, to make one urgent argument: young people are not failing democracy, the system is failing to show them why democracy matters. Drawing on civic literacy data, voter turnout statistics, and his own journey from apathy to political ambition, Judah calls on educators, parents, and mentors to connect the dots between gas prices, college tuition, and the ballot box, before the next generation inherits a democracy they do not know how to defend.
