The Competency-Based Education system was designed to shift learning from theory to practical skills. However, for thousands of learners, that promise remains out of reach due to a shortage of science laboratories and other hands-on learning facilities. The pioneer Grade 10 class has been among the hardest hit, with many learners, especially in remote parts of the country, completing junior school without ever accessing a science laboratory or conducting practical lessons.
