The acting DNI Bill Pulte has stirred controversy by choosing Christina Norton as his chief of staff. Norton is a GOP election operative who oversaw a poll watching program that included conservative conspiracy theorists and has no experience working in the intelligence community. A former senior U.S. intelligence official who spoke with MS NOW called the pick “horrifying,” adding, “her principal qualifications appear to be loyalty to Pulte and an embrace of absurd election-interference conspiracies.” Pulte’s choice of Norton is also likely to increase concerns among Democrats that President Donald Trump intends to use the Office of the DNI to interfere in the midterm elections.
