Australian researchers have developed a 3D-printed “heart patch” that could one day transform treatment for heart failure. The experimental technology uses a patient’s own stem cells combined with silk-based material to create a personalised patch designed to repair damaged heart tissue. While still in early development, scientists say it could eventually reduce the need for invasive heart transplants.
