The Kisumu County Security Committee has outlawed the use of private security personnel at political rallies in a bid to curb the rising culture of goons. Speaking after a joint security meeting, Kisumu County Commissioner Ramadhan Mwabudzo said the county has adequate police officers to provide security at such events and directed leaders to give sufficient notice before holding meetings. Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o echoed the move, saying the use of private security personnel could be contributing to the rise of goons. Other measures announced include a joint crackdown on the transport sector to eliminate criminal elements, installation of floodlights and CCTV cameras in selected areas, and the reactivation of the Kisumu County Rapid Response Team.
