One of Ottawa's oldest malls is celebrating a major milestone as the community gathers to mark the 70th anniversary of the Carlingwood Shopping Centre. CTV's Peter Szperling reports that 81-year-old John Ross is displaying his classic 1957 Chevy Bel Air inside the mall to recreate the atmosphere of its original opening in 1956. Former Ottawa mayor Jackie Holzman and local historian Dave Alliston note that the mall originally featured 3,000 parking spaces and drew 10,000 people on its first day. Current Mayor Mark Sutcliffe shared his childhood memories of the community hub, which has evolved to house the largest Canadian Tire in the country.
