Russia has launched a large-scale missile and drone attack on Ukraine, targeting Kyiv, Dnipro and Poltava. At least 13 people have been killed and more than 90 injured. Residential buildings caught fire and others were heavily damaged. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia launched more than 70 missiles and more than 500 drone attacks overnight. Moscow says the attacks are in response to Ukrainian strikes deep inside Russian territory, targeting energy facilities, military sites and airports. Al Jazeera's Audrey MacAlpine, reporting from Kyiv, said rescue efforts are ongoing at one of more than 20 sites hit in the capital, with children believed to be buried under rubble, including a 15-year-old girl. She said the attack began with drones just before midnight, followed by ballistic missiles. Zelenskyy is on his way back from Ireland and will attend the NATO summit in Ankara next week to plead for more Patriot air defence systems. Al Jazeera's Yulia Shapovalova, reporting from Mosco
