Over 1,000 LGBTQ veterans discharged under the historic military ban on homosexuality may still be entitled to compensation, but have less than six months to apply. Former Lord Mayor of Manchester Carl Austin-Behan, who was dismissed from the RAF at 25 for being gay, is backing a campaign to track down these “lost veterans” before the deadline passes. Campaigners are urging anyone affected to come forward now, warning that time is running out to secure redress for years of suffering.
