The Home Office previously tweaked licensing laws to allow pubs which usually stop serving alcohol at 11pm to continue pouring pints until 2am, during World Cup fixtures. However, this amendment only applies to matches kicking off between 9pm and 10pm. Speaking in the House of Commons on Thursday, Kate Dearden MP, Minister for Employment Rights and Consumer Protection, confirmed these rules don't apply for the 1am kickoff. She said the government was "absolutely backing our pubs", adding: "It's coming home hopefully." Venues wishing to stay open late, who don't already have a late licence, must get permission with a Temporary Event Notice (TEN) from their local council. Housing Secretary Steve Reed has written to local councils to "encourage them to sign off applications for pubs to extend their hours even further for these late games", a No10 spokeswoman said. #politics @itvnews • Subscribe to ITV News on YouTube: http://bit.ly/2lOHmNj • Get breaking news and more stories at h
