Kyiv has been hit by one of the most intense Russian aerial assaults of 2026, with Ukrainian officials reporting a massive overnight barrage involving missiles and drones. According to reports, Russia launched around 74 missiles and 496 drones, targeting multiple locations across the Ukrainian capital. The attack lasted for hours, with explosions lighting up the night sky and air raid sirens sounding across Kyiv. Ukrainian air defense systems attempted to intercept incoming weapons, but officials say shortages of interceptor missiles reduced their effectiveness. By morning, large parts of the city were covered in smoke as emergency crews rushed to rescue civilians trapped under collapsed buildings. At least 27 people have been killed and over 90 injured, with damage reported at more than 100 buildings across Kyiv.
