In this commentary video I address why it is so difficult to find new videos to watch on YouTube, as well as how the manner in which the website recommends videos has changed over the years. I think the way the website favors average view duration is a perverse incentive, where the end result is actually that the platform is extremely hesitant to recommend anything to the viewer that isn't considered perfectly safe for their tastes. Because YouTube is too afraid to show you something you may disagree with, it becomes difficult to find anything worth watching. 00:00 - Intro 00:16 - The Change 01:27 - The Consequences 02:26 - How YouTube Works 02:42 - What I Noticed 04:53 - What That Means 05:59 - The Unintented Consequence 08:44 - How This Impacts the Viewer 10:42 - Elimination of Authenticity 11:43 - How to Fix It
