“Every student who is white working class, on free school meals, underperforms at every stage of the education system, likely from early years to university, than almost every other ethnic group.” Following an independent inquiry into school inequalities, the government needs to “change the culture” and support apprenticeships to close the attainment gap for left-behind white working-class pupils, says former Conservative Education Minister and former Education Select Committee Chair, Robert Halfon. Robert Halfon was speaking to Ed Vaizey in for Rod Liddle on Times Radio. Listen live every Friday, 10am–1pm.
