Wildfires continue to devastate thousands of hectares across Greece, Portugal, Spain and France, fuelled by dry conditions following intense early-season heatwaves. Near Thessaloniki, five firefighters were hospitalised with injuries and respiratory problems, whilst care homes in the area have been evacuated. Portugal has requested military assistance from Spain and Morocco, with 120 Spanish troops deployed to help contain the blazes. In France, authorities have warned that stages of the Tour de France could be cancelled if fires threaten public safety. Al Jazeera's Frances Read reports.
