A wise crab once sang that "such wonderful things surround you" on the ocean floor. He also proposed "that it's hotter under the water". Thanks to the development of a subsea vessel that allows ocean researchers to live underwater for more than a week, scientists can start investigating those claims, including the impacts of the latter on the ocean environment. Vanguard is a "cosy" underwater habitat — a saturation-diving system that allows divers to stay underwater for extended periods without the risk of decompression sickness, commonly known as 'the bends'. According to Deep’s director of scientific research, Dawn Kernagis, this means researchers aren't just getting "a snapshot" of what life is like 'under the sea'. "Now you're getting to see what that environment looks like around a 24-7 life cycle, which is incredibly impactful". Read more stories here: https://bit.ly/3qBhrgi
