Chinese EVs have landed on Canadian soil. Data from Global Affairs Canada indicates that May was the first month of EV imports from China. It is all part of an agreement made earlier this year. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney signed an initiative with China, which can now export up to 49,000 Chinese electric vehicles a year into Canada at a reduced tariff rate of 6.1%. In return, China has agreed to reduce tariffs on some Canadian canola products. It is all part of a bigger strategy from Canada to move away from total reliance on the U.S. due to recent tariff wars between the two countries.
