Four suspected robbers killed in Eldoret police shootout

Four suspected robbers have been killed while two others are on the run following a shootout with police in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County. The gunfight broke out shortly after midnight along the Eldoret–Kiplombe Road. According to Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Wilberforce Sicharani, officers cornered six men dressed in military attire as they allegedly robbed members of the public at Greenfield Junction. Police say the suspects opened fire when challenged, prompting an exchange of gunfire in which four were killed on the spot. Two others escaped with gunshot wounds and are being pursued. Officers recovered a loaded pistol, crude housebreaking tools, mobile phones and ropes believed to have been used by the gang, which police say had been terrorising residents in Kitale, Kapenguria, Nandi, Marakwet and Eldoret. The bodies of the four suspects have been moved to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary as the manhunt for the two fugitives continues.
