Trump admits to calling FIFA president to review Balogun red card

United States President Donald Trump has admitted to asking FIFA president Gianni Infantino to review a red-card foul against USA striker Folarin Balogun. Balogun is widely considered one of the US' best players at this year's World Cup. A red card automatically bans a player from their next match. Trump told reporters that he thought it would "have had a big stain" if the decision to red-card Balogun in the US' match against Bosnia and Herzegovina had gone ahead. The decision was slammed by Belgian football officials, who released a statement saying they are "astonished" by a move that is in "direct contradiction" with FIFA's own rules. The Royal Belgian Football Association is "investigating all potential options" to "safeguard the legitimate rights of all participating teams and to protect the fundamental principles of fair play in our sport," it said.
