An under-construction Manhattan high-rise at risk of collapse was stabilized late Tuesday after reports of buckling columns led to the evacuation of construction workers and people in surrounding buildings. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani described it as “an extremely serious situation.” The 1970s-era building near the Chrysler Building and the United Nations headquarters is being converted into luxury apartments.
