US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke to the press ahead of their bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara, outlining their priorities for discussions on the war in Ukraine, air defence and future security guarantees. Trump announced that the US would grant Ukraine a licence to manufacture Patriot interceptor missiles, saying: "We're going to give you a licence to make Patriots... Make them yourself," describing the move as a defensive measure and expressing confidence that Ukraine could begin production quickly. Trump said he believes both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelenskyy want to end the war, calling Putin and Zelenskyy "difficult characters" but saying he believes a settlement is getting closer.
