In this TEDx talk from Lagos, Algarve, Portugal, astrophysicist Pedro Machado takes us on a journey from the Moon and Mars to ocean worlds, icy moons and distant exoplanets in search of one of science’s biggest questions: are we alone in the universe? Drawing on his work with major telescopes and European Space Agency missions, Pedro explores how water, chemistry, biomarkers and the origins of life on Earth can help us understand where life might exist beyond our planet. His talk invites us to look at the night sky differently, not as a sky full of stars, but as a sky full of worlds. Planetary Scientist Pedro Mota Machado's main activity is focused on planetary sciences, more specifically on the study of other planets' atmospheres.
