Sweltering July heatwave brings disruption, health alerts and hosepipe bans

Temperatures hit 34C on Thursday, meaning this year has seen the most days with 34C or higher in UK history, the Met Office has confirmed. It comes as new heat alerts have been issued as the UK experiences its third heatwave in as many months, with temperatures expected to soar as high as 36C. Some schools have cancelled sports days and National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) has warned of wildfires due to the dry weather.
