Turkey is reportedly preparing to transfer its Russian-made S-400 air defense system to a third country. According to a Turkish newspaper report, Gulf nations such as the United Arab Emirates or Qatar could be potential buyers, although Turkish and Russian authorities have not officially confirmed the claim. In 2017, Turkey signed a deal with Russia for the supply of a regimental S-400 system, which it received in the summer and fall of 2019. Washington demanded that Turkey abandon the Russian systems in favour of the Patriot, but Turkey refused.
