Iran's Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) have declared the Strait of Hormuz closed until further notice, after firing a warning shot at a commercial vessel they said was using an unapproved route. The IRGC said no ships would be permitted to pass through the strategic waterway until what it called the end of US interference in the region. The move comes after recent attacks on commercial shipping and rising tensions between Tehran and Washington. Al Jazeera's correspondents report from Tehran and speak with analysts about the potential impact on regional security, maritime traffic, and ongoing diplomatic efforts.
