US President Donald Trump has announced he is reinstating the US blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, calling the US the "Guardian of the Hormuz Strait" and imposing a 20 percent fee on all cargo shipped through the waterway. In a Truth Social post, Trump said: "We are reinstating the Iranian blockade, so named because it is only stopping Iran's ships or customers from entering or leaving. All other countries will have fair and open use of the strait." Trump also said the US will be "reimbursed at the rate of 20% on all cargo shipped" to cover the costs of providing safety and security. The move marks a significant shift from the memorandum of understanding, which had suspended the blockade and allowed for 60 days of no tolls or fees. No official response has yet come from Iran, while intermediaries including Qatar, Oman and Pakistan had been trying to preserve negotiations. Oil prices edged higher following the announcement amid renewed concerns over global energy supplies. Al Jazeera'
