The home secretary will today set out how she will change the law so that a Pakistan-born Rochdale grooming gang leader can be deported. Shabir Ahmed, 73, was released from prison this month after serving 14 years of a 22-year sentence for 30 child rape offences. But he cannot be deported under legislation from 1971 protecting Commonwealth citizens from removal. Shabana Mahmood is expected to set out later how the government will amend the law so that he can be deported.
