A South Australian driver was on his mobile phone 55 times before fatally striking 72-year-old cyclist John Dennis near Port Pirie in October 2023. Shannon Turner used Instagram, Snapchat and Google Chrome throughout his journey, taking photographs, viewing videos and online shopping while driving at 110 kilometres per hour. The court heard Turner failed to brake, take evasive action or leave the required 1.5 metre clearance when passing the cyclist.
