Germany's gas storage levels have dropped after a long winter, and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune arrives in Berlin on July 16 for talks that are expected to produce letters of intent expanding Algeria's LNG supply to Germany. Algeria is already one of Germany's top gas suppliers alongside the US, Norway and Qatar — but the deal has run into a cabinet split. Germany wants to help Algeria cut methane leakage across its gas production chain, and the EU's methane regulation is due to take effect January 1, 2027. Economy Minister Katherina Reiche is pushing to postpone it, arguing it could cut Germany off from global gas supply; Environment Minister Carsten Schneider is resisting a delay. DW's Lars Halter breaks down the fight from Berlin — and what it means for Europe's energy security as a deadly heatwave grips the continent. #Germany #Algeria #LNG #EnergyCrisis #Tebboune #EUPolicy #MethaneEmissions #GasSupply #KatherinaReiche #DeutscheWelle #ClimateChange #EnergySecurity Time
