Scott Morrison's job-ready graduate scheme has resulted in 285,000 students facing university costs exceeding $54,000 for arts, law and commerce degrees in the coming year, with some double degrees reaching $90,000. The scheme was designed to make nursing and teaching degrees cheaper but has been criticised for failing to significantly increase enrolments in those fields whilst burdening students in other disciplines with soaring debt. The Albanese government is awaiting advice from the Tertiary Education Commission before implementing any changes to the policy.
