The India–UK Free Trade Agreement is now officially in force, marking one of India's most significant trade deals with a developed economy. With 99% of Indian exports to the UK set to receive duty-free access, the agreement is expected to boost sectors such as textiles, apparel, engineering goods, marine products, footwear, gems and jewellery. But every trade deal comes with trade-offs. India has agreed to gradually lower tariffs on products such as Scotch whisky, gin and premium British cars, while protecting sensitive sectors including agriculture and dairy.
