“I don’t know who brought this hunger, it’s too severe,” says Regina Ewute Lokopuu in Turkana County, northern Kenya. After two failed rainy seasons, severe drought is forcing many families in the region to survive on wild fruits. Meanwhile, other parts of the country, including Nairobi, have experienced unusually heavy off-season rains that have triggered flash floods. Kenya’s National Drought Management Authority has classified four counties - Mandera, Wajir, Kwale and Kilifi - in the “alarm” phase, while 13 others, including Turkana, are on alert.
